Her mother Martina Magenau Jacobs was a Carnegie Mellon University director of alumni relations at Heinz College. William F. Jacobs Jr. is her father. Lebanon. She is of French German Irish Scottish and Scottish origins. Jacobs was the daughter of a family who owned the Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery, founded by the family in Erie Pennsylvania 1847. John Martin Magenau Jr. served as the post of President and CEO since 1978, until the brewery's closing. Jacobs started studying acting at the age of eight old and took Saturday acting classes at The Pittsburgh Playhouse. She performed at the Pittsburgh Public Theater, where she took home the public's Shakespeare Monologue Contest many times. After graduating from Mt. Jacobs and graduating in 2000 from Lebanon High School, moved in New York City New York in the year 2000, where she attended The Juilliard School. Jacobs graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2004.
